Douglas E. "Doug" Maurer

Douglas E. “Doug” Maurer, age 74, passed away at his home on September 12, 2025, and is now at peace. Doug was born in Milwaukee, WI on October 8, 1950, to George P. and Grace C. (née Olsen) Maurer. He grew up in the city of Kenosha, with a sharp wit, and a warm love language of sarcasm. He graduated from Tremper High School in Kenosha with the Class of 1968 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Wisconsin - Parkside in 1972. Always eager to learn and grow, he later pursued his interest in technology and earned a certification in computer programming from Gateway Technical College in 1999. On June 6, 1994, Doug married the love of his life, Nancy Vrana, in Reno, Nevada. Their union was filled with laughter, companionship, and shared adventures, creating a bond that carried them through life’s joys and challenges. Doug built a fulfilling career with Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc. in Kenosha, where he dedicated 34 years of service before his retirement. His strong work ethic and loyalty were admired by colleagues and friends alike. A man of many talents and passions, Doug’s love for music shone early on as he played guitar in a band throughout high school and college, sharing joy and energy through every note. He was also a proud member of the Kenosha Bowmen, where his love for archery and the outdoors flourished. In retirement, he embraced hobbies that spoke to his adventurous spirit - hunting, pistol shooting, and archery brought him peace and fulfillment. Doug had a lifelong affection for dogs, not only as beloved pets but as companions to train, guide, and cherish. His dedication led him to become a certified dog trainer, where he turned his passion into a business that brought joy to both people and their four-legged friends. Known for his humor and quick wit, Doug always had a joke ready to bring a smile or laughter to the room. He treasured time spent with family and friends, where his presence brought joy, sarcasm, and a strange sense of humor. Doug’s family and friends will forever carry his love and memory in their hearts. He will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Nancy Maurer; children: Krista Maurer, Scott Maurer, and Danielle Maurer-Lambert; grandchildren: Justina and Marlana Maurer, and Exie Lambert; great-grandchildren: Jasiya and Jeovannie Gaines, Prince Steward, and Jackson and Greyson Thompson; sister, Peggy Gotta; brother, Gerold (Laurie) Maurer; brothers- and sisters-in-law; Erv Vrana, Connie (Jim) Mauer, Jim (Sue) Vrana, and Pam (Mike) Chvilicek; nieces and nephews: Kyle, Cory, Jason, and Elissa, as well as, Christopher, Cory, Christina, Scott, Tammy, Lindsey, Justin, Leigh, Lauren, and Jennifer; along with other relatives and friends; and his adored dogs, Maxwell “Max” and Ashley, who brought him endless joy and companionship. Doug was welcomed into eternal peace by those who went before him: his parents, George and Grace Maurer; his brother-in-law, Harold Gotta; and his father- and mother-in-law, Albert and Margaret Vrana. He was also embraced by his past furry friends: Cee-Jay, Turk, Chelsee, Barron, Chance, and Daisey. Though they are reunited now, Doug’s love will continue to surround those who remain, offering comfort in the many fun memories shared. A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home on Sunday, September 21, 2025, beginning with a visitation at 11:00 am until the ceremony at 12:00 pm. Donations in Doug’s memory are kindly requested to be sent to either Hospice Alliance, 10220 Prairie Ridge Boulevard, Pleasant Prairie, WI 53158 or Woof Gang Rescue, 1906 Melvin Avenue, Racine, WI 53404. Casual attire is welcome; jeans and flannel shirts are perfectly acceptable, just as Doug would have wanted. The family is deeply grateful to the staff of Hospice Alliance and Senior Helpers, whose gentle hands and compassionate hearts provided comfort, dignity, and unwavering support to Doug and his loved ones during his final years and days. Doug will be remembered as a devoted husband, dedicated father, loyal friend, and a man who lived fully, sharing his loving sarcasm, talents, and humor generously with those around him. His memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to all who were blessed to know him.
