Vincent Lena

Mr. Lena, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday morning, Feb. 15, 2007 at the age of 86 years. He was born in Chicago on April 25, 1920. He moved to Kansasville in 1950 where he and his late wife, Mary Ann, raised four children and opened their homes and hearts to over 40 foster children over the course of 30 years. He was known for his emphatic love of family and fierce work ethic. Vincent worked from dusk to dawn most of his life as a carpenter. He enlisted in the army at age 20 and was a veteran of World War II. Vincent served as a medical technician, grade 5 in the New Guinea and Central Pacific campaigns with the 880th Medical Hospital Ship Platoon. He was decorated with Asiatic Pacific Campaign, American Campaign and Good Conduct Medals. He was attached to Merle's Mauraders Brigade. Vincent served as past commander of Disabled American Veterans, Burlington. He was very proud of and instrumental in the construction of the Gifford-Larsen Roadside Memorial on Hwy. 11. He is survived by his, daughter, Fran (Robert) Hinostro, sons, Mario (Helen) Lena, Mike (Peggy) Lena, Shawn (Beth) Bergemann; grandchildren, Nicole Marie (Jeffery Gagnon) Hinostro, Michael John Hinostro, Marie Francine (Brian) Frederick, Joseph Vittorio Lena, Anthony Mario (Peggy Skyles) Lena, Helen Juliet (Dan Roszkowski) Lena, Andrea (Jeff) Van Dan, Michael (Kristen) Lena; great-grandchildren, Shelby, Zachary, Francesca and Maximillian Frederick, Victoria and Vincent Van Dan and Anthony Mario Lena II; a brother, Sal (Angie) Lena, a sister, Mary; many nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his loyal wife, Mary Ann (DeMarco) Lena and a grandson, Mario Vincent Anthony Lena. Friends may join the family for the Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007 at St. Mary Dover, 23211 Church Road, Kansasville, at 12:30 p.m. with Fr. James Kendzierski officiating. Friends may meet with the family at the church on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery after a processional through Vince and Mary Ann's cherished neighborhood, Eagle Lake Terrace. In memory of Vince, his wishes are to have any donations made to the Mary Ann Lena Scholarship Fund at the Community State Bank for the Racine County Foster Children and Providence Catholic School Students.
