Lois M. Johnkowski

Lois M. Johnkowski was called home to our Lord and Savior on January 5, 2022. Lois was born on April 8, 1931 to Joseph and Ellen LaFave. Lois was reunited in marriage to her loving husband, John A. Johnkowski. She enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her family while her husband served in the military for 25 years as a US Army Master Sergeant. Growing up, she was known in the neighborhood as Mom or Mrs. J and loved by all. Including John Lees, her neighborhood adopted son, who continued to visit her and bring her flowers or candy every holiday, for many years. She loved him as one of her own. Lois’ favorite pastime was reading Bible scriptures as well as having her daughter Tammy read them along with her, with Lois’s love, patience and compassion, Tammy as well became a God fearing woman. She enjoyed watching her favorite TV show “The Golden Girls” and was huge fan of the Chicago Cubs. Her favorite movie was “The Color Purple” and her favorite actor was Sidney Poitier. After church on Sunday’s, Lois would always be ready to gather with others and cheer her Packers on. Anyone who knew her, including her long time Oncologist, called her a walking angel and a true gift to life, and God. Lois is survived by her children, Margie Nelson, Judy Foss (Joe), Michael Nelson (Shorty), Michael Johnkowski (Erica), Tammy Madden (Jeff), and Bill Johnkowski (Diana). Preceding her in death was her loving husband, John, and her five siblings, Kenneth LaFave (Roberta), Nancy Boudreaux (Jay), Betty Pucher (Nick), Joe LaFave (Rose), and her twin sister Marie Ferg. Lois is also survived by her beautiful grandchildren, Dawn, David, Amy, Adam, Erica, Samantha, Kym, Stephanie, Brandi, Melissa, Elijah, Calla and Casey. Great Grandchildren Bella, Vincent Lucas, and many special nieces and nephews. The Family would like to thank Compassus Hospice for their dedication and sincere compassion for our mother. They thought of Lois as pure gold, sneakier than a snake and sweeter than hot Apple pie. We would like to add a special recognition and thanks to her daughter, Tammy Madden, for all her dedication, patience and excellent care she provided to her mother during the last 15 years of Lois’s life. Tammy would like to share an inspirational quote her mother shared with her when she needed uplifting, inspiration and strength in her own life, or to others (now), who may need it in their own. “Honey, let them see the brokenness. Let them see the cracks in your armor, that’s exactly when (your light) shines, and God steps in to guide you”. A memorial and remembrance will be given at a later date, and time.
