John Robert Mattie

Sturtevant-John Robert Mattie, 71, passed away at Ascension SE Wisconsin Hospital in Franklin on Wednesday, July 6, 2022. John was born to the late Eugene and Shirley (nee Bradley) Mattie on July 18, 1950, in Racine. He was united in marriage to Susan Rudolph on July 30, 2011, at their home in Sturtevant. John served his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. After the Army, John worked as a self-employed carpenter for 40 years. John and his wife, Susan, also manage Motel 94 in Sturtevant. He was an avid Wisconsin sports fan, his favorite teams being the Milwaukee Brewers and the Green Bay Packers. John was an outdoorsman and enjoyed camping every year in Rome, Wisconsin, with his wife and family. He was crafty and enjoyed building all kinds of different items. Over the years, John built toyboxes for his children and his grandchildren. One of the best items he built was a playhouse which has all his grandchildren’s names on it. He always enjoyed the champagne of beers, Miller High Life. Above all, John loved his family and cherished every moment with them. John will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Susan Rudolph; children: Jennifer Nixon (William Johnson Jr.), Randy Mattie (Amanda), Tracy Jackson (Alfredo), and Kerri Miller (Matt); stepchildren: Penny Wesselmann, Gloria Rudolph (Robert LaFever), and Keith Rudolph (Jennifer Schmittenger); 18 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way; siblings: Sandy (Roger) Therkelsen and Don Mattie; along with several other relatives and friends. A celebration of John’s life with full military honors will be held at the Wilson Funeral Home on Monday, July 11, 2022, at 1:00 P.M. with Chaplain Terry Peterson officiating. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service.
