Racine - Mr. Jesus Hernandez Jr. passed away at his home on Monday morning, July 7, 2008. Jesus was born in Millit, Texas to the late Jesus Sr. and Paula (nee: Rodriguez) Hernandez on May 8, 1922. He had lived in Racine since 1950. In Racine, he was united in marriage to Petra Avila on June 26, 1951. Mr. Hernandez served in the United States Army during World War II in the Philippines and Okinawa. He was Private First Class Company L 103d Infantry. Mr. Hernandez was a member of Cristo Rey Catholic Church. He served as the Treasurer and Head Usher. He was also active in Crusillita de Cristianda. Mr. Hernandez was employed by J.I. Case for 36 years and retired in 1986. He was a member of the J.I. Case 20 Year Club. Mr. Hernandez was a former National Vice President of the League United of Latin American Citizens (LULAC). He also served as the former President of the Racine Chapter of LULAC. Mr. Hernandez was the first Hispanic Scout Master in Racine. He was always very active and involved. He loved to help when needed. Most importantly, Mr. Hernandez was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be dearly missed. Jesus is survived by his wife, Petra; three sons, John (Linda), Hector (Tracy), and Daniel Hernandez; 20 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren; one brother, Theodoro (Margie) Hernandez; four sisters, Emalia Lara, Beatrice Maroquin, Janie (Richard) Guzman, and Martha (Israel) Rodriguez; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Maria Hernandez; one grandson, Sterling Michael Hernandez, 3 brothers, Tony, Francisco, and Noe Hernandez; and his stepmother, Manuela M. Hernandez. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Cristo Rey Catholic Church on Thursday, July 10, 2008 at 10 am with Fr. Roberto McGlinn officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the Wilson Funeral Home, on Wednesday evening, July 9, 2008 from 5 until 8 pm. with a Rosary service starting at 7 pm. There will be visitation also at the church on Thursday morning for 9 am until the time of Mass. Memorials may be directed to Cristo Rey Catholic Church.
